Hyundai Invests $15 Million in New Michigan Testing Center

South Korean auto manufacturer Hyundai is burying some serious roots in America. The Hyundai America Technical Center Inc. (which opened in 2005 and employs 170 people) recently announced that it will further expand the company's influence in Superior Township, Michigan by building an innovative Hot/Cold Weather Dynamometer Test facility there.

Hyundai has invested $15 million in the project (including upgrades at the Technical Center), which will add fifty full-time jobs at the location over the following three years. Dr. Cho, President of the Technical Center, explains the importance of the project, stating, "This investment and promise of a Hot/Cold Weather Testing facility in Michigan reinforces Hyundai and Kia's commitment to U.S. vehicle development and American jobs. Investing in our locations, products and people is critical to Hyundai and Kia's ability to compete with the best in the business. Hyundai and Kia are committed to doing everything it takes to work with its partners, including the State of Michigan, to be competitive in the marketplace."1 Hyundai currently leads the auto industry in terms of Corporate Average Fuel Economy, and this new facility will allow researchers to perform the EPA SC03 Supplemental Federal Test Procedure (SFTP), which will further aid in new innovations in this area.

Smart drivers can always count on Hyundai to bring the newest technologies to the automobile market, like the ones featured in this year's new Hyundai vehicles. Interested in finding out more?
