When Carter County Hyundai first heard that the 2012 Hyundai Tucson was going to be featured in The Walking Dead, to say we were interested would be an understatement. It's very hard to pull off product placement in such a show and more often than not it looks cheesy and artificial.

Luckily, the good people at Hyundai had similar concerns, which caused a lot of time and energy going into the vehicle's placement. Rather than having the characters shell out lines about how reliable Hyundai is or how Hyundai has some of the strongest brand loyalty in the industry today (both of which we know to be true, but clearly could not fit in the show's context naturally), the Tucson was included into the show next to a long-abandoned Georgia Highway, strewn among other vehicles.

While this isn't the most flattering way to showcase the new Tucson, we assure you Hyundai Chief Marketing Officer Steve Shannon and the show's producers found a way to make it so!

In the scene that features the popular Hyundai crossover, a group of survivors are searching for supplies in a number of cars and trucks. One survivor, Shane stumbles upon the Tucson, only to find that the vehicle's keys still in the ignition! How convenient for Shane. The car starts up normally, and to nobody's surprise, it drives perfectly. The radio even starts transmitting a signal from the Emergency Broadcast System!

One aspect that Shannon was a bit uncomfortable with, was the fact that the Tucson needed to be shown with a significant amount of dirt and grime on it. The vehicle was required to be in such condition to maintain a sense of realism within the show's universe. Shannon reluctantly agreed since it would make no sense for it to be clean, polished and in pristine condition.
